And They Lived Happily
Chapter After Chapter.
~ The Great Read
An Oxford study found that reading for pleasure produces positive feelings that can't be duplicated in any other activity: not socializing with friends, sports, musical instruments, theater or other cultural activities.
The study further shows that teens who read for pleasure are more likely to have better job prospects, but I was more interested in the "something special about reading for pleasure" and the happiness it brings.
Many parents when asked to describe their hopes and dreams for their children will answer a variation of "I just want them to be happy." What if visiting your local library each week literally brought home happiness in the form of a book?
Reading for pleasure is the happily ever after.
