Library Lessons: Mayan Culture

"Love, respect, tolerance, sharing, gratitude, forgiveness. It's not complex or elaborate. The real knowledge is free."  ~ Carlo Barrios, Mayan Elder

Arielle's teacher is a rare gem. She took the children on an adventure around the world without ever leaving the classroom. This past Thursday evening the entire class entertained us parents with singing, dancing, and small group presentations on countries from around the world. On the way home, Arielle tearfully confided she wished this Belize journey was just beginning, rather than ending.

The next day I went to the library and borrowed this beauty:

When your children's teacher sparks a fire of interest, surprise them by going to the library (or even faster - go online) and borrow books, music, movies, magazines - don't forget the cookbooks - and watch how they dig deeper into the subject matter. Don't know where to start? Ask your librarian.

Your library is like a quiet teacher, and they have the power to take your family on any journey your choose without leaving your home. What has your child been excited to share with you recently?

xoxo Michele
